This week’s challenge:

Follow a recipe to create bubbles that can bounce!

Supplies you will need:

  • Blue Dawn dish soap
  • Sugar
  • Pipe cleaners
  • Water
  • A bowl
  • A spoon or fork
  • 1 Tablespoon
  • Optional: a soft winter mitten, soft glove or fuzzy piece of clothing

Bouncing Bubble Recipe

  • 4 Tablespoons of water
  • 1 Tablespoon of blue Dawn dish soap
  • 2 Tablespoons of sugar

Combine all ingredients in a bowl and mix together.

About the recipe

What do you notice that is different from a regular bubble mixture?

SUGAR! Sugar is added because it will dissolve into the mixture and can make your bubbles stronger and last longer.

When bubbles hit a surface or the water evaporates, the bubble will pop. With sugar added, the sugar helps form a thicker protective layer.

Create Bubble Wands

Use the pipe cleaners in the kit and bend them into different shapes to create bubble wands.

Blowing and Bouncing Bubbles

Use your bubble wand and your bubble mix to blow bubbles. Try bouncing the bubbles with your hand and then try bouncing them with a soft mitten.

Take your time, it takes practice to get a bubble to bounce. Move slowly and keep trying!

TIP: Smaller bubbles work best for bouncing and be gentle and move slowly when trying to bounce.

Extensions:

  • What shape makes the best bubble? Use the pipe cleaners to bend into different shapes. Which shape works the best and why?
  • What other substances can you add to a bubble mixture to make the bubble last longer?
