Ready, Set, Make with Free MakerFest Activities
Together with Mississauga Library, we are pleased to present our first MakerFest event! Join us to participate in a variety of virtual STEAM and Maker activities and learn from guest presenters, outlined below.
Friday, May 14, 2021
4:00 – 5:00 pm: 3D Design with TinkerCAD
Learn the basics of 3D design with TinkerCAD. TinkerCAD is a free, web-based, easy-to-use software that is used by teachers, kids, hobbyists and designers. Presented by Mississauga Library. Register here.
5:00 – 6:00 pm: Fabrication with Shop3D
Learn about 3D printing, laser cutting and vacuum forming with experts from Shop3D. Register here.
6:00 – 7:00 pm: Get Started with MIT App Inventor
In this workshop we'll introduce you to MIT App Inventor, a beginner-friendly visual programming application for creating mobile apps for Android devices. Recommended for ages 13 and up. Presented by Brampton Library. Register here.

1:00 – 2:00 pm: Traditional Indigenous Technologies
Learn how ancient Indigenous peoples adapted ‘technologies’ from nature and used these concepts day to day. A look at how ‘Traditional Ecological Knowledge’ and design blending with modern materials contributes to our everyday life in today’s world. Presented by Traditional Indigenous Elder Cat Criger. 2:00 – 3:00 pm: Exploring the Night Sky
The president of the RASC Mississauga Centre, Randy Attwood, will introduce participants to the hobby of amateur astronomy and give tips on how to get started observing the night sky and taking astrophotos with digital cameras and cell phones.Presented by RASC Mississauga Centre. Register here.
2:00 – 4:00 pm: Virtual Fixit Clinic
Have a household item that's broken? Don't toss it, fix it! In partnership with Fixit Clinic, join our local fixers and coaches from around the globe online for guidance on how to repair your broken items at home. Please note that you must arrive at the beginning of the event in order to showcase your item and be assigned a breakout room.

3:00 – 4:00 pm: Maker Trivia Challenge
Want to test your maker & STEM knowledge in a fun trivia challenge? Come by yourself or bring friends! Register here.
Take & Make for Tweens: Da Vinci Bridge
Make a popsicle stick bridge with no mechanical fasteners or adhesives based on one of Leonardo Da Vinci's designs. Kits are available on a first-come, first-serve basis starting May 14 from any Brampton Library branch via curbside pickup. Recommended for ages 6-12. Makerspace On Demand service is available on a limited basis while our branches are closed to the public due to COVID-19. Request a 3D print or vinyl cut and meet virtually with a Librarian to set up and execute your job.
