What is a Commissioner of Oaths?
A Commissioner is a person authorized to take your oath or solemn affirmation when you sign an Affidavit or a Statutory Declaration.
Types of transactions and documents which a Commissioner of Oaths can assist clients will include:
•Taking affidavits, affirmations, acknowledgments or declarations
•Attesting letters of invitation or travel consent letters
•And for specific purposes: certifying true copies of original documents (check first with the Commissioner of Oaths)
A Commissioner of Oaths is NOT authorized to provide services for financial purposes which include power of attorney, wills, real estate, insurance or bank related documents.
What is an Affidavit?
A document containing statements that are verified by the oath or affirmation of the person making
Facts to know before meeting with the Commissioner of Oaths:
•Customers must bring two pieces of identification on the day
•Customers must sign documents in front of the Commissioner of Oaths
•Customers whose name is on the document must be present
•Customers must bring original copies of their documents
