The Brampton Public Library Board operates under the authority of the Ontario Public Libraries Act  (R.S.O. 1990, chapter P.44). It is responsible for making policies for the operation of the Library; for obtaining adequate funding for Library materials, services and programs; and for promoting the Library in the community. Library Board members are appointed by Brampton City Council for a 4-year term, concurrent with the term of the appointing City Council.
In accordance with City Bylaw, the Brampton Public Library Board is currently composed of the following:

          • a minimum of two (2) Members of Council
          • two (2) citizens who shall be nominated by the Peel District School Board
          • two (2) citizens who shall be nominated by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board
          • four (4) citizens who shall be appointed by Council
